Furniture conservation forms the core of our business. A trained cabinetmaker, Tom can replicate any missing portions during restoration, fabricating them exactly like the original using appropriate hand tools where necessary. Research, knowledge and replication of varnishes and paints is a specialty and can greatly enhance both the authenticity and value any article of furniture. Most importantly, the knowledge of materials (both historic and modern conservation materials), connoisseurship of styles and  respect and sensitivity to historic materials is always applied and the fundamental ethics of conservation - the retention of as much original material as possible - is the first goal.
